Increase Your System’s Performance by Tweaking Prefetch and SuperFetch

I have recently come across software called TweakPrefetch which is software that Tweaks Windows Prefetch and Superfetch.  This software is very useful because it caches to speed things up in Windows PC. By doing some further research I came to know about some important information, especially important for those having SSD drive.
TweakPrefetch

Prefetch is available for Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7. Superfetch though is available only for Windows Vista and Windows 7 users. Both of these utilities help to reduce applications startup time, and also boot time of operating system. For TweakPrefetch in Windows XP, as the programmer claims, Prefetching is better if left with its default value and the same can be applied to Superfetch on Windows Vista and Windows 7. But if you’re a hardcore gamer, you have a SSD (solid state drive) and your system has less than 2GB of RAM, then you should consider using these two utilities to improve your system’s overall performance.

As we know SSDs are already fast enough so prefetching doesn’t help in increasing the performance. The lifespan of a unit can be increased if the Prefetch and Superfetch are disabled. Some gamers might experience frame-rate drop during gameplay, which is possibly caused by the caching process so if you disable Prefetch, the drop in frame-rate might stop. For computers with less than 2GB of RAM, your memory usage can be decreased if you disable Prefetch since it uses as huge amount of system memory for this process.

You can configure Prefetch and Superfetch with the help of TweakPrefetch. The user interface is very simple, displaying clear options how you can tweak the Prefetch and Superfetch for your PC. You have the option for tweaking Applications & Boot, Boot Only and Applications Only.  Please note that services of Prefetch and Superfetch can only be disabled by selecting the advanced controls from the Option Menu-bar.

You can also use the Configuration Wizard on the Tools. The wizard is really helpful for less experienced users. The wizard will help you find optimal settings for your PC.

Well if things don’t go smooth for you, you can also revert the system settings to default by selecting “Applications and Boot” from the program. You will need to have .NET Framework 3.5 already installed in order to use this software. The software is for free.
